BLT to seek public opinion at ABSU meet

KOKRAJHAR, Feb 12 ? The leadership of Bodoland Liberation Tiger (BLT) has decided to seek public opinion on the composition of the interim Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in the forthcoming conference of All Bodo Students Union (ABSU). Talking to this correspondent after the public felicitation ceremony at Ronchaidham in Bongaigaon today the BLT leader Mainao Daimari and ABSU Adviser UG Brahma, MP, said that the formation of the interim BTC council would take some time as they were planning to seek public opinion on it during ABSU conference.

The BLT and ABSU leaders who were given warm felicitation by people at Ronchaidham, reiterated their commitment to provide equal opportunities in all sphere to all sections of people in the BTC irrespective of caste and creed. They also informed that Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani was likely to be present on the occasion of disbanding of the BLT and laying down of arms by its cadres. However, the exact date of the proposed disbanding is yet to be decided.

36-hour statewide bandh : Even as BLT leaders are being feted by people in different parts of the State over signing of the BTC Accord, the Sanmilita Janagosthiya Sangram Samity (SJSS) has called for a 36-hour Assam bandh from 5 pm tomorrow till 5 am of February 15 to protest creation of the BTC.

Our Patacharkuchi Correspondent reports that an extended executive committee meeting of the SJSS held at Patarchakuchi today decided to give the bandh call and vowed to oppose implementation of the BTC Accord tooth and nail sans discussion with non-Bodo organisations. The SJSS termed the BTC Accord a ?destructive one? and warned that it might lead to communal clashes in the State if the non-Bodos were not taken into confidence by the State government and the Centre in implementation of the Accord. The SJSS warned of another 100-hour statewide bandh call in near future if the State Government failed to heed to the demands of the organisation. The SJSS is planning to hold a state-level rally to register their protest against creation of the BTC.
