GUWAHATI, Dec 2 ? The Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) today threatened to snap its ?working understanding? with the BJP for the failure of the BJP-led Government in the Centre to resume talks on creation of an autonomous state in Karbi Anglong and NC Hills. Stating that the MoU signed with the Government in 1995 has failed to fulfil the aspirations of the people in the two hill districts, the ASDC has announced its decision to launch fresh agitation with a 48-hour hill areas bandh beginning at 5 am on December 13 next. However, essential services and examinations have been exempted from the purview of the bandh. The ASDC general secretary, Chomang Kro and other senior leaders including Prakanta Warisa, Dharam Singh Teron, Elwin Teron, Samarjit Haflongbar today blamed the ?indifferent? attitude of the Government of India to over 30 years old democratic autonomous State movement had compelled a section of frustrated tribal youths in the two hill districts to take up arms. It may be mentioned that the ASDC led by Holiram Terang as the president striked a ?working relation? with the BJP at the persuation of the national leaders of the saffron party just before the last Assembly polls in the State. The ASDC leadership also alleged large-scale corruption and plundering of Government fund by the incumbent set of Congress rulers in the Executive Councils in both the hill districts and announced that mass representation through Government agents in the two hill districts would be submitted to the Governor of Assam requesting his intervention to put an end to ?loot? in the councils.
