Archaeological museum inaugurated

GOALPARA, Nov 30? On the last day of World Heritage Week (November 25), Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Guwahati circle has opened the long-awaited archaeological museum in the foothills of Sri Surya Pahar. Sri Surya Pahar about 12 km away from here is the historical and archaeological site where remnants of Gupta period and later civilisations belonging to Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism lie scattered and some items have been excavated during the last couple of years.

Dipak Kumar Goswami, deputy commissioner of Goalpara district inaugurated the museum and in his inaugural speech lauded the efforts of ASI. Dr G C Chowle, Director of Museums, ASI and Lt Col S N Roy, principal of Sainik School, Goalpara who also graced the occasion spoke a few words in the inaugural ceremony.

While expressing satisfaction for opening the museum, people present in the ceremony hoped that other items which have not yet been covered or likely to be retrieved in the days to come will be housed in the museum to make it more attractive to the tourists. R D Singh, Superintending Archaeologist and some other officials of ASI were also present in the meeting.
