ABSU's appeal to Bodos: Pursue education in Bodo language

JULI MAIDAN (Barama), February 16: The 33rd session of All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), held at Juli Maidan, Barama has called upon the Bodo people to pursue education in the Bodo language with the aim to develop the language. ABSU further decided not to encourage setting up of English medium schools in Bodo villages in order to help the Bodo medium schools to flourish. ABSU will also encourage establishment of private Bodo medium schools to keep Bodo children in the private Bodo medium schools instead of going to private English medium schools. In this regard the ABSU will form a forum to inspect the academic environment throughout the State. The delegates session held yesterday night passed 13 resolutions reflecting the present political and socio-economic problems of Bodos. In an important resolution the ABSU has expressed serious concern over the imposition of ban and shoot and sight order issued by NDFB on five Bodo organisations, ABSU, BPAC, ABWWF, BSS and BLT. After exhaustive discussion ABSU decided to protest in a democratic way against such undemocratic unjustified immatured and emotional decision of NDFB. In another resolution, the ABSU reiterated its standing demand for creation of a separate State and decided to launch vigorous mass movement to achieve its goal of separate state of Bodos. Today's function started with a cultural rally which was flagged off by the MP of Kokrajhar Sansuma Khungur Bwismuthiary. The open session was held under presidentship of outgoing ABSU president UG Brahma. Addressing the meeting, Kuldip Nayar said that militancy cannot solve any problems. He further called upon the people to take up the path of non-violence. Nayer stated that the leaders and intellectuals of Assam should realise the caused behind the problems of the region. There is no problems that can't be solved by negotiation, Nayer added. Addressing the meeting, Sansuma Khungur Bwismuthiary hoped that the peace talks between the BLT and Centre would be able to bring about a lasting political solution to the burning 'Bodoland' issue and restore peace, normalcy in Bodoland territory. "If we get Bodoland' the land will be a state of peace, prosperity and harmony." Earlier, the new body of ABSU was formed with Rabi Ram Narzary as president and Lwmshrao Daimary as general secretary.
