22.57 pc growth of voters recorded in Nagaon

NAGAON, February 13: The number of voters in seven legislative assembly constitutencies under Nagaon subdivision has increased by 22.57 per cent during the last 10 years, according to the final voters list published here recently. Significantly, the number of female voters during this period was not proportionate to the increase in the number of male voters. In 1991 electioon, the number of voters in seven constituencies was 6,69,894 while in 1996, the number stood at 7,27,384 registering a growth of 8.5 per cent. In 2001, the number of voters stood at 8,20,488 which shows an increase of about 12.8 per cent over 1996 but during the last five years, the growth of female voters was 10 per cent and alarmingly, the number of female voters showed a declining trend in Raha LAC. In Raha LAC, whereas in 1996 the number was 57030, it is only 48,959 in 2001 showing a decrease of over 14 per cent. In Samaguri LAC the growth of female voters during 1996 was 37.78 per cent, highest in Nagaon subdivision. In Raha LAC, the number of voters in 1991 was 1,10,593 while in 1996, it was 1,21,650. In 2001, it stands at 1,37,767 registering a growth of 24.57 per cent during last ten years. In Nagaon LAC, the number of voters was 96,404 in 1991 and it increased to 1,15,894 while in 2001, it is 1,25,078 showing a 29.74 per cent grwoth, the highest in Nagaon sub-division. In Barhampur LAC, there were 100202 voters in 1991 whuile it increased to 109644 in 1996. In 2001 it stands at 122163 registering an increase of 21.9 per cent over 1991. In Dhing, there were 97,892 voters in 1991 while it increased to 107778 in 1996 and 119731 in 2001, showing a growth of 22.3 per cent. In Batadrava LAC, the number of voters was 94,986 in 1991 which increased to 1,00,348 in 1996. In 2001 it showed an increase of 13.87 per cent standing at 1,08,168, the lowest in Nagaon sub-division. In Rupahi LAC, the number of voters was 93,937 in 1991 and in 1996 it stood at 100,452 while in 201, it is 1,10,226 and the growth percentage stands at 17.34. In Samaguri LAC there were 75,880 voters in 1991, and in 1996, it rose to 79,848 while in 2001, itis 97,355 showing a 28.3 per cent growth over 1991. Meanwhile, the names of 6315 voters have been deleted from the voters list who have been found dead during last five yers while names of 6059 voters have been included in the list during the revision.
